1. Decide your intake & program direction
Germany has winter (Oct) and summer (Apr) intakes — winter has the most life-science programs. Fix your target intake and stream (biotech, micro, biochem, pharma, bioinformatics).
2. Start your APS certificate
Mandatory for Indian students and the slowest step — weeks of processing. Apply on the APS India portal with attested 10th, 12th and degree documents. Everything else waits on this. Full APS guide →
3. English proof — IELTS/PTE or MOI
Most universities want IELTS ~6.5. Some accept a Medium of Instruction letter from your college. Book the test early; scores take time. IELTS vs MOI guide →
4. Build your research profile

5. Shortlist universities & write your SOP

6. Submit applications
Most winter-intake deadlines fall around March–July (varies by university — uni-assist or direct). Submit early; late applications are the #1 avoidable failure.
7. Blocked account + health insurance

8. Book the visa appointment
Slots in India fill weeks ahead in peak season. Complete file = admission letter + APS + blocked account + insurance + academics. Genuine, well-prepared students pass at excellent rates.
9. Pre-departure
